The suns heat energy is absorbed in vacuum tubes or flat plate collectors situated on the roof, or other position available for the property. If the temperature within the collectors is higher than the temperature within the hot water storage cylinder then the solar pump is switched on.

The temperature differentials are constantly monitored to ensure correct control of the system this transfers the heat from the collectors through the lower coil within the cylinder and indirectly heats the stored hot water producing hot water for use. A twin coil storage cylinder is used to ensure hot water can be backed up on days of poor solar gain thermal store applications can also be used, along with advanced design stratified cylinders.

It is important to utilise as much solar energy as possible to maintain savings and reduce environmental impact. This is achieved by sizing the whole system to suit the occupants.
